How I got here
I attended my first Pilates class in a small room of a gym in Morristown in 2001, I had no idea what I was doing or even what Pilates was when I walked in. When I left, I knew it was some kind of magic, I felt amazing. The next day I was aware of muscles I previously didn’t know existed. I had an on and off love affair with Pilates for the next decade via DVD’s, small gym classes and even as my college Phys ed requirement.
In 2014 I decided to search for a studio with apparatus, the closest studio was about 40 minutes away, but I decided it was worth the trip and the money. I was immediately in love. I decided at that moment I wanted to share this with others. I signed up for anatomy and physiology at County College of Morris and signed up for an upcoming teacher training in New York City . The course included anatomy but I’m not the kind of person that likes to just scratch the surface, I like deep knowledge.
It took me about a year to complete the training, the practice hours, the observation hours, and the apprenticeship. I started teaching part time and bartending at night. I started seeking out the best teachers I could find and began exploring my own practice.
I have since opened my own studio, completed a second advanced certification, taken countless hours of continuing education. I still take private lessons to teach my body to move better and to keep it strong and lithe.
I work out in many other modalities, but Pilates is my number one, there is nothing like it. I love a good sweaty cardio session, I love losing myself in a yoga practice, I love throwing around some weights, but nothing keeps me coming back the way I do to Pilates.
